Statutory consultation

Birmingham Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust is currently consulting on its plans to open Christ Church, Church of England, Secondary Academy in the Yardley Wood area of Birmingham in September 2021.

Essentially this statutory consultation gives us the opportunity to continue to seek the views of prospective parents, students and stakeholders, giving them the opportunity to help shape the secondary school so that it meets the needs of the south and east Birmingham community.

Your views and feedback are very important; please take the time to read the Consultation section of our website and complete the questionnaire.

Please also feel free to come to one of our two drop-in consultation events to find out more about Christ Church, Church of England, Secondary Academy and ask representatives of Birmingham Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust any questions:

6.30pm – 8.30pm Tuesday 10th March 2020
12.30pm – 2.30pm Thursday 2nd April 2020

Both events will be held at Yardley Wood Social Club, 118 School Road, Birmingham B14 4JR.

Announcing the Appointment of our Headteacher

Christ Church, Church of England, Secondary Academy is excited to announce the appointment of its Headteacher.

Mark Dalton will be joining Christ Church Secondary Academy as Headteacher Designate in September 2020 to prepare the school for opening at its new purpose-built site in Yardley Wood in September 2021. He leaves the highly regarded Ark St Alban’s Academy having successfully led the school for three years as Principal.

“The establishment of Christ Church Secondary Academy is an opportunity to create a truly exceptional school where young people will fulfil their potential and live life in all its fullness.

“Our school will be a model of excellence: an inspiring, inclusive learning community that encourages students both to attain academic success and to achieve personal growth. Excellent teaching across a deep and broad curriculum will give our students new knowledge of our world and new power to shape our future.

“I consider it a great honour to have been selected as the headteacher of Christ Church Secondary Academy and I look forward to making sure that the impact of our work is outstanding from the outset.

“Every young person deserves a world-class education. Through working closely with parents, local primary schools, our church and the community in and around Yardley Wood, I am committed to ensuring that those in my care receive this gift every day.” (Mark Dalton)

Families with children due to start secondary school in September 2021 will have the opportunity to meet Mark at open events currently being organised to take place prior to the admissions deadline. Details of the open events will be widely publicised on the school’s website and through Facebook.

Parents are also encouraged to sign up to the school’s newsletter at https://christchurchsecondary.org.uk/register/

Planning Permission Approved

In 2017, the Birmingham Diocesan Multi-Academy Trust (BDMAT) started to explore the idea of setting up a Church of England secondary academy in the Birmingham area. Funded by the Department of Education, our vision was to build a school that would be in the heart of the community and serve the children of the local area. We are now able to announce that planning has been approved for a new secondary academy in Yardley Wood and we will now be moving into an exciting new stage of the school’s development. We are committed to working with the community to make this a success for everyone, and we believe this new school will open doors for a brand new future. Our school has been approved!

We are delighted to confirm that the Department for Education has announced that our application to open Christ Church C of E Secondary Academy in the parish of Yardley Wood has been successful.

The academy is one of only two Church of England secondary school applications to progress to the ‘pre-opening phase’ in this wave of free schools and is now planning to open in September 2020. The precise location of the school is yet to be confirmed and a provisional opening date will be confirmed once a suitable site has been secured.

The secondary school for pupils aged 11-19 will admit up to 180 students to Year 7 each year and will eventually accommodate 900 students plus a sixth form. The curriculum offer will be broad and balanced and a longer school day will incorporate a varied programme of enrichment activities including a supportive homework club.

Christ Church C of E Secondary Academy will form part of the Birmingham Diocesan Academies Trust which is being established by Birmingham Diocesan Board of Education. The vision of the Trust is to ensure students have ‘life in all its fullness’; providing an education that will offer a wide range of opportunities alongside the expectation that students will leave with qualifications enabling them to access successful employment.

The foundation of the academy is rooted in values stemming from Christian teaching, providing education for all and following an open admissions policy that welcomes young people and their families from all faith backgrounds and none.

“We are excited about being able to provide a new opportunity for the diverse communities in and around Yardley Wood. Every pupil will be supported in achieving their personal best, both academically and holistically as young members of the community. An inclusive Christian ethos affirms all pupils, including those of other faiths and none.”
Sarah Smith, Director of Education of Birmingham Diocesan Board of Education

We would like to thank everyone who supported our application and will keep you informed of our progress through our website and on the Christ Church C of E Secondary Academy Facebook page.
