#WeWill - Year 8 Enrichment

Last week students began their Year 8 enrichment programme to great success. They have begun to build on the enrichment activities that they participated in last year and have now chosen an area of social action within which they will lead their own project.

Through Ormiston Trust, and with the support of the #iwillFund from National Lottery Community Fund and Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport, CCSA have joined a collaboration of over 1000 organisations and 300 #iwill Ambassadors from across the UK.

In joining this powerful movement, our students have begun to take their first steps as leaders of youth social action and joined children around the country beginning their #WeWill journey.

Students have chosen project areas that are important to them and will work on changing a corner of our world through cooking, care, computing, gardening, sports leadership, exploration, recycling and textiles.

Their first session focussed on the skills they will need to put their projects into practice. Here, pupils learned about effective communication and how good communicators can be successful. They learned about the theory by analysing famous speeches by Steve Jobs, Emma Watson, Martin Luther King and Will Smith. Groups then began to discuss how these skills would be important when running their own projects. #WeWillLead and #WeWillExplore then put their communication skills to the test by guiding blindfolded partners through an obstacle course.

They will be going on to complete leadership training in presentation, problem solving, team work and reflection, before planning and executing their own social action projects. We are so excited to see what they get up to and grateful for the support of the #WeWill team at Ormiston Trust and our talented enrichment staff at CCSA for creating the space for our students to flourish.
